Eton

Eton is a small historic town in Berkshire, England, sitting on the opposite bank of the River Thames from Windsor.

Best known around the world as the home of Eton College, the town is also worth exploring in its own right. From the centre of Windsor, visitors can simply walk across the pedestrianised Windsor Bridge over the River Thames and into Eton.

Eton High Street has a very different atmosphere from its much busier neighbour. Historic buildings, independent shops, cafés and traditional pubs line the street, while the presence of Eton College becomes increasingly noticeable as you walk further into the town.

Founded by King Henry VI in 1440, Eton College is one of Britain's most famous and historic schools. Its centuries-old buildings, including the impressive College Chapel, form an important part of the character and history of Eton.

One of the pleasures of visiting Eton is simply walking. The town is compact, so it is easy to explore on foot, while the River Thames and views back towards Windsor provide plenty of opportunities for photography.
