What Are the Terracotta Warriors?

Discovered by local farmers in 1974, the Terracotta Army is believed to include more than 8,000 individually crafted soldiers, along with hundreds of horses, chariots and military officers. Amazingly, no two warriors are exactly alike, with each featuring unique facial expressions, hairstyles and armour.

The army was created to accompany Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the founder of imperial China, into the afterlife. The sheer scale, detail and engineering behind the site continue to fascinate archaeologists and visitors alike.
